wheatgrass caipirinha

A healthy cocktail is not available around every corner on the island. That’s why when we discovered the array of new cocktails at Om Beach Restaurant – a hidden organic gem at Batu Bolong Beach – we were tickled pink and couldn’t wait to sip one of their babies.

Following the recommendation of Heinz Alberti, the owner-cum-discerning mixologistwe order the wheatgrass caipirinha, a spin on the classic Brazilian favourite. Colour-wise, it’s joyfully green and endearing, with lime peel hanging stylishly on the side. The recipe comes from Heinz himself, who takes pride in combining such titillating ingredient mixes. “Many have found the benefits of wheatgrass, yet it seems no one has taken it to the next level,” he enthuses.

On the very first sip, we relish the fresh, green taste that’s entirely wheatgrass. Subdued sweetness then surges briefly on the palate, before the sedative vodka clears up any trace of flavours and urges us to drink some more. Well, it’s said anyway that a shot of wheatgrass equals a kilo of fresh fruit and vegetables; hence we tipple it bottoms-up with no guilt!

Curious tipplers may pepper Heinz with as many questions as they like regarding the organic quality of his product, and he’ll be delighted to answer. The wheatgrass in fact is nurtured with love at the restaurant, a bamboo structure that boasts a gorgeous sunset view. Given its relatively short 30-minute distance from Kuta, Om Beach Restaurant with its tasty wheatgrass potion offers a breath of fresh – and green – air from the bustling Seminyak nightlife.
