the colony
where is it?
In Seminyak.
what’s the resort like?
This boutique hotel may be small – it has only 20 rooms and suites – but sometimes smaller things are more beautiful. Its architecture and white walls remind us of an iconic boutique hotel in Surabaya that boasts a lot of history and pa-tinas. Being new, The Colony isn’t blessed with the same patinas, but it looks just as charming. The lobby of this hotel is dinky, but it has all you need from a hotel lobby – it’s actually better because it doesn’t have gigantic, over-indulgent and extravagant pieces of art. The resort has two Superior rooms, 12 Deluxe rooms and six Junior Suites all put together in a mansion-like setting.
what are the rooms like?
There have been a lot of claims that this hotel’s rooms are designed based on the minimalism school of interior design; we strongly disagree. The interior of each room here is obviously inspired by the colonial era, but none is vacuous and cold – which is often the case whenever a room carries a minimalist tag. Despite being dominated by white, the rooms and their furniture give a warm feeling. In a nutshell, it is like staying in a room from the colonial era, but equipped with 21st-century technology.
what about the facilities?
There is a 16-metre swimming pool in the middle, and they also have a massage parlour operated by Jari Menari – two-time winner of hellobali Best of Bali Awards for Best Magical Fingers.
what about food and drink?
There is a bar/café near the pool whose menu is quite international. But this hotel is located very close to the island’s best restaurants and bars. When you stay here, we highly recommend that you venture out and try these joints.
The internet rates start at US$ 155++ for a Superior room.
