01 blue valentine
Get over clichéd pink and let this year’s V-day be fabulously blue. The new array of sparkling gems from Jemme (Jl. Raya Petitenget, T: 0361 473 3508, www.jemmebali.com) emits quintessential resplendence and elegance through purple and blue nuances. Delicately framed on a white gold ring, necklace and earrings, the gorgeous February collection will not only melt the heart but also make your beloved weak at the knees.
The cross-shaped diamond, amethyst and moonstone 18-carat white gold necklace will wow the lucky girl without imposing any hints of promiscuous intention. The earrings however send a stronger signal and let you caress her sensitive ears and observe her voluptuous neck. Should you desire to make her yours truly, then seal the deal on bended knee with the diamond, tanzanite 18-carat white gold ring offered in your hand. Don’t forget to whisper the three little words, too.
02 corsage on the bottle
It’s been a while since French natural spring water brand Evian made a splash with their chic-designed bottles. Following the same artistic pursuit under the Live Young campaign, the company knocked on the door of Parisien house of fashion Courregès to carve haute couture out of the water vessel. The result is strikingly fabulous. Evoking feminine persona through neon pink and white floral petals draping the exterior, it’s a special design worth collecting and sold only in limited editions starting in December 2011 in Jakarta. Let’s just hope that Bali saves a good number of them so you don’t have to rush out and queue to grab one.
03 pinokio’s globe
On the lane heading to the erstwhile Doublesix club in Seminyak, our attention was drawn by a small, elongated shop stocked with wooden globes of various sizes and colours. What a dazzling gift for globetrotters, we must say. And on the side of this Globe-Story shop is emblazoned in big letters a quote by the ingeniously wicked George Bernard Shaw: “I don’t know if there are men on the moon, but if there are, they must be using the earth as their lunatic asylum.” We second that.
But joking aside, the globes on sale appear curiously quaint and very much artistic – some even bear natural wooden cracks along major continents such as Europe and Asia. We particularly favour the turquoise globe with white hues for the land areas. The colours glitter under the sunshine and its compact size makes it easy to bring one home. What a small world indeed.
04 batik on board
Not just another surf store in Bali, Nusa Surfware at Uluwatu-Ungasan Street (www.nusasurfwear.com) offers unique batik-pattern surf boards, made and produced in Bali. Founded by Diego López and his wife, the shop has brought the local heritage into the limelight once again, reintroducing Javanese batik in playful dimensions as shown in the varied products on sale. Ninety per cent of the woodwork involved is also sourced from used wood. Moreover, the boards are hand-shaped in Bali – it just can’t get more authentic than this.
Clothing options for men and women are also available, with the latter pertaining to the Debali label. Again the artful details of batik are played out in fitting designs and cuts that will flatter your physique. Topping off the surf look is the homeagrown Indosole sandals, made of used motorbike tires. With all these in store, it shouldn’t be hard for one to surf in style with a green attitude.
