maya ubud

where is it?

In Ubud.

what’s the resort like?

Set on a hilly ten-hectare tract of land near Petanu River, Maya Ubud is built to complement its natural surroundings. It’s a resort that makes you feel like you are actually getting in touch with nature – somewhere in the middle of nowhere. The resort’s architecture takes a lot of inspiration from the traditional Balinese way of erecting and organising buildings, though this inspiration is interpreted very subtly; the resort doesn’t boast intricate Balinese paintings, masks or statues in its décor.

what are the rooms and  villas like?

The villa roofs are made of thatched alang-alang, and the modern furniture is also made of sustainable materials – Maya Ubud was awarded Green Globe Certification late last year. The tables and luggage racks are made of recycled teak railway fittings, the mirror frames are old wheels taken from traditional horse-drawn carts, and the classy-looking four-poster beds come from the timber of old rice ploughs.

what about the facilities?

The Spa at Maya is an award-winning riverside heaven for those who appreciate a good pampering. Recently, the resort also opened a fitness centre and yoga pavilion, which is located next to the tennis court and has a fine view of the pitch-and-putt green. For a spot of culture, the resort has Purnama Theatre. This is an open-air venue for dinner and cultural shows that can cater for up to 100 guests.

what about food and drink?

Maya Ubud’s signature restaurant is Maya Sari which serves international and local fare, while Asiatique offers Asian bites from Japan, Thailand, China and even India. For those who prefer their meal on the healthy side, the resort has River Café, a poolside restaurant with an amazing view of the Petanu River.

The published rates start at US$ 295 for a Superior Room.
