the royal spa
the look
The spa treatments are carried out at either the two spa-designated villas or the guest’s pool villa, at the outdoor balé or on the indoor spa beds. Either choice will make no difference to the quality of service. In fact, The Royal Santrian’s serene villas not only please the eyes, but cosset the ears with the sounds of trickling water in the pool and rustling leaves from the breeze. There’s also an adjoining outdoor shower to boot, if you desire a rinse under the sunset sky after a two-hour session.
the touch
The Royal Spa has a list of massages, scrubs, manicure/pedicures, body wraps and even nail art. For first-time visitors, the Tiying Gading massage is highly recommended. The name derives from the Balinese term meaning “over yellow bamboos”; hence, the two-hour treatment uses steamed bamboo batons soaked with aromatic oils to generate a warming sensation over your body. Prior to that, an ayurverda-based deep tissue massage will loosen up the muscles, taking advantage of the heat channelled by the therapist’s palms – they rub their hands several times at the beginning of the session. Once the bamboo rolls on your skin, it might be swelteringly hot at first, but the ensuing warmth will last long and aid your physical and mental relaxation.
the ingredients
Aromatherapy is employed generously during every step of the treatment at The Royal Spa. From the footbath to the massage to the steamed bamboos, you’ll be gratified with wafts of fragrant frangipani, lavender and much else. All products, bottled in golden-brown The Royal Spa-branded vessels, are available for purchase with prior order.
the special
Without doubt, the villa itself is a quintessential escape, with its privacy and understated luxury. Add to that the massage beds with their comfortable headrests and we can rest contentedly for hours. The ayurveda discipline employed in the massage is authentic and seems to be tailored for busy executives, with generous attention given to the waist, lower back, neck and shoulders.
