The Setting
Think of a room filled with white chairs, marble tables and white tablecloths. There is a bar that never runs out of cold drinks and directly in front of the balcony, which is full of comfortable-looking deckchairs, is a plunge pool full of water as blue as a clear Bali sky. Across from the bar there are three big mirrors and upstairs is a rooftop area equipped with a bar, 50 seats and a cooling roof, perfect for pre-sunset drinks. From December on, this rooftop venue can be booked for special events such as weddings or birthday parties.
The Food
Located near the beach area at the rear of the resort, this restaurant originally only served Thai fare. More recently though other Asian bites have been added to the menu. The Easy Bites section, for example, now offers sate ayam and fish and chips. On top of that, there is also a fully dedicated page on the menu for pizzas and sandwiches. The mains now include delicious portions of massaman lamb, beef rendang and chilli crab, while the dessert menu now sports sweet Indonesian bites such as dadar gulung and sago mutiara.
The Unique
Regular weekly events at this joint include an Asian-barbecue night, which starts at 7pm on Mondays and which will set you back Rp. 135,000++ for food only, and a seafood barbecue which takes place every alternate Friday and which is priced at Rp. 180,000++. Moreover, from 7pm onwards, a mellow acoustic duo will serenade you through your dinner. On top of that, Tao Beach House also does a very decent liqueur coffee. Try one or two or even three from their range of French, Jamaican and Mexican alcohol-infused coffees. This joint doesn’t serve breakfast and is open from 10am until after 10pm.
