Hand-crafted jewellery is a rarity in these modern times, and Indonesia is one of the last places in the world where fine jewellery is still created by skilled craftsmen with simple tools, one step at a time. Bali’s Bodybuilding Event
Want
to see some of Indonesia’s best built, muscled hunks bearing their
oiled torsos in extremis? Well, come to the GSG building in the Kuta Istana
Galeria on February 10th 2007 to see the Bodiku Bodybuilding Competition.
The event is orchestrated by the drug free Pro World Champion bodybuilder
Komang Arnawa of Bodiku Management in co-operation with the government
bodybuilding association PABBSI Bali.
The ‘Bodiku Competition’ was born from Komang’s desire to encourage bodybuilders to adopt a drug free approach to bodybuilding. The annual competition offers Balinese athletes a podium from which their hard work and commitment to a healthy lifestyle can be formally recognized and acts to encourage fitness activity in general with inspiring performances from skilled dancers and martial art experts and the graceful, svelte physiques of Bali’s top fashion models.
The event, presented as an entertaining show, demonstrates the beauty of the human body. Atheletes follow a choreographed routine of poses with music. Exciting ‘pose downs’ follow where athletes, as a collective group, flex their muscles before the judges, trying to outshine their competitors.
“This year, the Bodiku competition combines the talents of the fitness and gymnastics community in a high energy, fun atmosphere that is sure to attract attendance from Bali’s famous ‘world audience’ of locals, expatriate and international holiday makers” said Komang
“It is a great chance for members of the public to come and ask questions about health and fitness related topics and learn about some of the products and services available in Bali in support of achieving good health and wellbeing.”
Komang hopes that athletes adopting a drug free means of sculpting their bodies will provide a positive role model for younger generations and help illustrate to the general public the benefits of remaining healthy and active.
Bodiku’s February 10th event will have the best of Bali’s bodies on display and provide an ideal arena to strengthen Bali’s reputation as a world class tourist destination and an island of world class athletes.
Exhibition:
Body Double at the Bali Mystique Hotel
The dual exhibition of figure drawings features the work of two artists Tim Brown and Pranoto who are both intrigued by the human body.
Tim Brown, born in London studied at the Watford and Exeter Art College in the UK. He has worked as an artist for more than 20 years with exhibitions in England, Dubai, and the USA. He first came to Bali on a short visit two years ago and has now made this gorgeous island his home. His work in coloured pencil on treated paper reveals a trained eye with his use of subtle sepia colours and a delicate attention to detail.
Pranoto was born in Solo, in Central Java. He has lived in Bali since 1974, working as an artist and constantly experimenting with different media and subject matter. His charcoal drawings make a dramatic statement of the power of light on the human figure.
Both artists have drawn the model at Pranoto’s Art Gallery in Ubud where model sessions are held every Wednesday and Saturday.
The exhibition opens on Valentine’s Day at 7.00pm – a tribute to the beauty and romance of humanity.
