nutmegsnutmegs: the second coming of hu'u
Already open a few months now but garnering an increasingly loyal following amongst visitors to Bali is Hu'u's very picturesque Nutmegs restaurant (Jl Oberoi, Seminyak, T: 0361 736 443). With oversized cushions and low slung rattan tables for pre-dinner cocktails below the Frangipani trees, hundreds of candles scattered throughout the garden environment and the peaceful trickle of the waterfall at the far end of the open air restaurant, Nutmegs is a winning combination of finesse, style and did we mention taste? Check out the duck pancakes, squid salad, slow cooked teriyaki salmon with brandade of crab and capsicum coulis, or the grilled angus rib eye steak with parsnip puree, glazed shallots, sugar peas and black pepper sauce, then scupper your best laid diet plans with the caramelized banana tart or the devilish rhubarb and ginger crumble. Top dollar dining in Seminyak, reservations recommended.

good karma...
Congratulations to Sheree Commerford who is the lucky winner of our Karma Kandara competition. She correctly answered the question, 'what is the signature restaurant of the Karma Resort in Jimbaran?' The answer is (and this one really was easy) Raymond Saja's much revered, 'Di Mare'.

The voucher for your stay is available to collect from the hello bali office.

kupu kupu on the beach

get high...
Take a unique look at Bali from the skies with the new Bali Eye hot air balloon in Nusa Dua (T: 0361 770 101). Hover 100 metres above the manicured Nusa Dua gardens and treat yourself to a majestic view of the south of the island. The balloon is tethered to terra firma to prevent any unplanned trips to Antarctica but we anticipate some bungee balloon activity in the very near future…

one for the kids
Hu'u saw a different kind of crowd from the usual weekend partygoers lining up to get in the door on October 12th. The crowd peaked at around two hundred people, made up of members of the surfing community, media, and supporters of the Bali Kids, gathering at Hu'u at the invitation of Oakley Indonesia and Villa Mana to help raise money for a worthy cause; the needy kids of Bali, and specifically the Bali Kids non-profit organization.

At the end of the night, Billy Boen from Oakley handed a cheque for IDR 19,435,000 to Brenton Whittaker from Bali Kids, money collected from dinner ticket sales and the proceeds from the live auction. Thanks and congratulations to all those in attendance for lending support to such a great initiative.

blossoming cuisine

blossoming cuisine
Global cuisine comes to Sentosa Private Villas (Jl Pura Telaga Waja, T: 0361 730 333) this autumn with the arrival of chef Chris Patzoid. Previously having taken charge of the kitchens of Ku De Ta, Axiom and The Canggu Club Chris brings his own unique and inventive touch to the much lauded Seminyak eatery that is Blossom.

The winning Thai formula of Blossom remains but is now complemented by a second menu with such international temptations as the gnocchi with basil crust, warm tomato juice with pecorino chips and a confit of pork belly with vodka and cranberry jelly and a braised red cabbage. There is also the introduction of a new 24 hour room service menu to the villas and a special late night menu running from 11pm to 6am nightly.
